ANNIN FLAGMAKERS COSHOCTON e nation's largest and oldest maker of fl ags, Annin Flagmakers, has been manufacturing fl ags since 1847. e American fl ag was less than 50 years old when Alexander Annin began making U.S. fl ags for merchant ships in his sail-making shop on New York City's water- front in the 1820s. Since then, six generations of the Annin family and its employees have produced more than 3 million full-size Ameri- can fl ags each year. eir fl ags have fl own over the White House, draped the coffi n of Presi- dent Abraham Lincoln, been raised on foreign battlefi elds and traveled to the surface of the moon with Apollo 11. Annin also manufactures fl ags for all 50 states and U.S. territories, in eight diff erent sizes; all the U.N. member nations, in fi ve diff er- ent sizes; all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces; golf, fi shing and boating fl ags; and historical and religious fl ags. e company's custom shop can create a company or organizational fl ag in quan- tities ranging from one to many. Groups can tour their 152,000-square-foot facility that sews U.S. fl ags, stick fl ags and patri- otic decorations. Visitors can watch the plant's advanced stand-up sewing production tech- niques. State, international and custom fl ags are digitally printed and screen dyed to exact color specifi cations. In-house research and testing laboratories, together with the art department, are constantly moni- toring dye formulas.
